The Blue Conch Restaurant and Bar
Summary
Where comfort food meets culinary craft in the heart of Exuma
At first glance, The Blue Conch Restaurant and Bar may appear to be a modest island eatery, but step inside, and you’ll quickly discover that there’s absolutely nothing ordinary about the dishes coming out of its 700 sq. ft. kitchen.
Tucked in Farmer’s Hill and attached to its namesake resort, The Blue Conch is a delightful surprise for hungry travelers and locals alike. After a long day exploring Exuma’s dazzling cays and beaches, this unassuming gem offers an international menu that keeps diners coming back for more — sometimes daily. According to the new management duo of Operations Manager Reginald Wood and Chef Joel Balfour, it’s not unusual for guests to skip the menu entirely.
“We have guests who come in and never even look at a menu,” says Wood. “Chef Joel will chat with them, get a sense of their tastes, and whip up something that’s exactly what they didn’t even know they wanted.”
Inside, the restaurant blends café charm with island simplicity. A modern coffee nook greets you at the entrance, flowing into a cozy dining area with a full-service bar. The décor is understated but welcoming — blue-clothed tables, wooden chairs, whitewashed walls, and touches of local art and wine bottles nestled among high-hanging blooms. While it may not be built for Instagram angles, it’s made for long, satisfying meals and hearty conversation.
And the food? Unforgettable.
Chef Joel, who brings decades of culinary experience from Jamaica to Trinidad, starts strong with his beloved stew chicken, a fragrant bowl of dark and white meat simmering in island spices like ginger and garlic, paired with peas n’ rice and plantains. It’s rich, savory, and comforting — the kind of dish you order “just to try” and then dream about later.
Other standouts include the roasted, smothered fish, the crispy island-style fried snapper, and a buttery lobster and mussel plate that’s as indulgent as it is flavorful. But the showstopper? The seafood linguine.
