Four simple words dreaded by children globally, “there’s food at home,” oddly enough ring true to a beautiful island five miles away from Nassau. While Tulum, Mexico, is all the rave right now, “there’s Tulum at home” right here in The Bahamas.

 Beautifully nestled on Rose Island, the Oasis Ocean 7 (007) Beach Club perfectly encapsulates the virality of Tulum with a splash of sweet Bahamian island life. Here is how I spent the day soaking in the luxe life: island edition.

 My day began on Paradise Island, at Jimmy’s Buffet Margaritaville, where I received my day -pass band, boating instructions and waited to board.  A few minutes later, a sleek boat featuring spy agent swimming pigs and other marine life designs pulled up to the dock. Instantly, I knew my chariot had arrived.

 Captain Dre and First Mate Andrew formally welcomed us onboard and shared boating instructions. Once we sailed out of Nassau Harbor, our soothing cruise quickly shifted to a thrilling, speed race.

 In the open sea, we zoomed across the waves. What felt like an eternity, taking in the vast ocean and marveling at the many shades of blue, was probably about 10 minutes before we arrived at our first stop – snorkeling with the turtles.

 As luck would not have it, when I cannonballed off the boat into the water, they were nowhere to be found. Nonetheless, I was delighted by the sights of vibrant pufferfish, rainbow fish, powder blue surgeonfish, and yellowtail snappers amongst the electrifying coral reefs.

 Oasis Ocean 7 Beach Club, which has been in operation for three years, recently opened the beach club less than a year ago, adding a modern touch to our tourism product.

 At first glimpse, the scaling rocks of the island filled me with mystery as to what lay ahead. Lush greenery filled each side of the seashell-engraved steps down to the main area. At the bottom of the steps to the right sat a tropical bar with a connecting cabana overlooking the beach. On the left, a beautiful waterfall and pond adorned with aquatic sculptures, a pigeon sanctuary, day beds, and lounge chairs awaited me.

 To officially mark my time at the 007 Beach Club, like any good Bahamian, I made my way to the bar. I was greeted with the kind of smiles and warmth only felt in The Bahamas.

 “One Piña colada daiquiri,” I ordered.

 “Coming right up!”

 My daiquiri was served at the perfect time because five minutes later lunch, a complimentary feature of the excursion, was ready.

 With our tummies full, it was now time for the star of the show, the swimming pigs. We moved from the lounge area to the beach.

 At the count of three, on the intro to “Who Let the Dogs Out”, the pigs and piglets came rushing onto the beach. The group erupted with “oos and ahhs” and cheers as we interacted with the animals.

 After feeding the pigs, I returned to my lounge chair and lay under a swaying palm tree, the sun caressing my skin.

 I had just unlocked my relaxation chakra when First Mate Andrew informed us that it was time to make our way back to Nassau. I must admit, I longed for 30 more minutes in paradise but truthfully, after such a perfect day, I was simply being greedy.

 It was bittersweet to wave goodbye to our captain and first mate once we docked and disembarked, but all good things must come to an end.

 Luckily for me, rather than going to Tulum, the Oasis Ocean 7 Beach Club experience was right at my fingertips.
